After my work with children is complete, I meet with parents to give them feedback. When parents wish, or when it would be appropriate, other professionals on the team can be included in the feedback meeting. Feedback is given verbally and there is no written report. When relevant, this meeting will include discussion of appropriate referrals, e.g. to a therapist or other child-centered resources. Helping parents maintain positive connection and empathy to their children’s needs and wishes is critically important to how children adjust to family change.
If parents have not yet begun to create a parenting plan, that is typically the next step in the process.
